Company overview

Haguruka has been ‘standing up’ (Haguruka means ‘stand up’ in Kinyarwanda) for the rights of women and children . Our vision is to create a society where women and children can enjoy equal rights and reach their full potential. Our advocacy efforts have influenced several national law reforms, the proposal of new laws, and the formulation of policies in favour of women and children. We bring our legal expertise to various regional centres in provinces across Rwanda, with our headquarters located in Kigali. Each principal centre has a conference room, office space, a small library, a jurist, a psychosocial counsellor and a safe house for women and children, particularly victims of gender-based violence. Our team provides vital access to services for vulnerable women and children, receiving referral cases from institutions such as the National Police, the National Prosecution Services, Courts and the Local Government. For a vulnerable person in need of representation, support and legal aid, their journey begins by visiting one of Haguruka’s counsellors in a safe space that guarantees confidentiality. They are then received by a lawyer in a similar environment, and follow-up steps are taken from there.
